Impossible Times
- There was much darkness was upon the earth - A light had shone
- So much ignorance
- The Israelites had been overrun by the Romans
- They had become 'religious'
- God's people were all at sea
- Some with righteous - examples
- There was no heart worship, love for God or repentance
- There was deep darkness
- Jesus called them a generation of adulterers
- John the Baptist called the religious leaders a brood of vipers
- At Such an impossible time - the Son of God was to break into the world
- The Jews should not have been surprised
- Remember deliverance from the Israelites
- God can work in the darkest of days
- The darkest day was the sin in the garden of Eden
- Promises were given by God
- Grace was given by God
- Consider the UK today - examples
- Is anything too hard for the Lord?
- With God nothing is impossible
Impossible Circumstances
- Mary - to be with child even though she was a virgin
- Mary likely worried about what others would say and about the consequences
- Yet, she wanted to know how these things would be
- Quote from Jeremiah
- Take courage today if you love God, even though your circumstances may be bad
- Look up and remember that nothing is impossible with God
- "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word" - v38
- Let Mary's response be our response
- There was a fulfillment - v45
- Without faith it is impossible to please God
An Impossible Victory
- Mankind is doomed due to sin
- God had sent His Son on a mission
- The Book of Revelation speaks of a dragon
- Jesus born as a vulnerable baby
- Humanly speaking it seems impossible
- A squalid stable with no hygiene
- Herod was determined to kill Him
- Yet God gave dreams to men to avoid Herod
- To live in a carpenters shop - not born into a palace
- He was not a warrior - He had no weapons
- He grew up in a despised place
- People spread rumours and lies about Him
- Opposition of the religious leaders
- Betrayal of one of the apostles
- All the powers of hell were arrayed against Him
- Taken to the cross
- Yet on that cross came the greatest victory of all
- He did not waiver from offering a perfect/spotless sacrifice for sin
- In death He took our sin and judgment
- He was raised from the dead
- He had overcome sin, death and the devil
- It was the God Man on the cross
