Do not stumble at Christ (9:30-33)

  • Do not stumble over Jesus
    • This was the main problem of the Jews
  • With all their privilege, they stumbled at the stumbling stone (9:32)
    • They had rejected the very Redeemer whom God had sent
    • They treated Him like they treated the prophets
    • They crucified the Son of God
  • Although they sort righteousness - they never attained it (9:31)
    • Yet the pagan Gentiles had attained righteousness
  • Modern day examples of the Jews
  • Modern day examples of the Gentiles
  • We must pray, Lord save
  • May we never stumble at Jesus Christ

Do not trust in good works (10:1-5)

  • The apostle Paul was zealous for tradition
    • We have to be careful in what we are in zealous about
  • After Paul's conversion he was still zealous for his countrymen [but in a different way]
    • He knew that without Jesus Christ their religion was in vein
    • He knew they were ignorant of God's righteousness (10:3)
      • They sought to establish their own righteousness (example of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector)
    • He knew they were without excuse
  • Christ has come to end the law for us (10:4)
    • It is all to do with faith in Jesus Christ
    • Example of Naaman
    • Gal 2:16 - it is not by the works of the law that we are justified, we have a Saviour
    • Gal 2:19-20
    • Gal 3:10-14
    • Gal 3:24-25
    • Gal 4:4-5
  • We are saved by faith alone!

Believe the Gospel (10:6-13)

  • All about the simplicity of the Gospel message
    • Do not make things difficult
    • Do not try to go to heaven or the abyss
  • Deut 30:11-14
  • We must never complicate the gospel
    • Faith alone in Christ saves (10:9)
    • Heart and mind (10:9-10)
    • Confess Christ (10:9-10)
    • Any and all can be saved (10:11,13)
      • This should encourage us in evangelism
  • Call on Jesus, believe upon Him and you will be saved
