Are you in good hands?

Preacher:
Passage: Psalm 31:1-24
Service Type:

Introduction

  • Text - v15 "My times are in Your hand, deliver me from the hand of my enemies"
  • Happy new year
    • Would you like another year like last year?
  • David's tone changes twice v1-13 - confidence, v9-13 one who has been forgotten/dead/broken
    • The Christian's life is not 'happy all the day'
    • David's confidence in God was still sure
  • We should be confident as Christians - confident in God
    • Are we confident in the year ahead?
  • The text refers to two hands - the hands of our foes and the hands of our God the Father

The Hand of our Foes

  • v15 - "My times are in Your hand, deliver me from the hand of my enemies"
  • Scripture does not represent our enemies as men of 'straw'
    • His first enemy, Goliath the giant – 1 Sam 17:44
    • He faced a king – 1 Sam 17:33
    • He went from a boy to a young man – 1 Sam 17:56 & 47
    • He faced death from the king – 1 Sam 18:10-11
    • He fled from Absalom – 2 Sam 15:10
  • Do you feel in the hands of family that treat you like an enemy?
  • We have a spiritual enemy
    • Eph 6:12
    • The world, flesh and devil
  • This control was broken at our salvation/conversion
    • We are no longer in the hands of our foes
    • "The truth shall set us free" - John 8:32
  • Are you still under the hands of our foes?
    • Do you want to be free?
    • v14-15
    • Step into the New Year in good hands

The Hand of our Father

  • v15 - "My times are in Your hand"
  • Personal example
  • How extensive is our time in God's hand?
    • Before time began - in eternity
      • We were on God's heart before the creation of the world - Eph 1:4
        • We were chosen by God
      • We were predestined to adoption – Eph 1:5-6
        • We cannot choose our parents - example
      • We have an inheritance in God - Eph 1:11
        • We are part of God's family
    • Experiential - from the time of salvation
      • God drew us to His Son and saved us
      • We have forgiveness of sins - Eph 1:7
  • Is this true of our life?
    • Are we held fast in His hands?
      • John 10:27-29
        • Example
        • We are the Father's gift to the son
      • Example - we do not have a Father who drops us
        • We are too precious to lose
      • We have assurance over our position in God's hands
        • Rom 8:35-39 – nothing can separate us from God
        • Do you have this assurance?
  • God's face upon us - v16
    • God's reflection is in our lives
    • Numbers 6:25
    • Quote
    • The reflection of Christ in our life
  • When God appears, we will be like Him

Closing Remarks

  • Will you call upon God tonight to save you?
  • Where are your times?
