Introduction

  • TV Program: The Greatest Gift
    • That other people would live because of him
  • Christmas is all about giving
    • Think of the costly gifts given by the Wise Men
      • Perhaps that is why we give presents today
    • Christ is a time about thinking about those who are less fortunate
    • Christmas is a time where people are more kind
  • Do we really consider what it meant for God to give His only beloved Son?
    • To part with the second person of the Trinity
    • The greatest gift is Jesus - The Bible says 'an unspeakable gift'
  • What does a Christmas Carol service mean to you?
    • Truly and principally for the worship of Jesus Christ
    • A staggering miracle took place

The Wise Men

  • Lived in the East - known to be wise, astronomers, kingly
    • They were not ordinary men
    • They lived far from the revelation of God to Israel
    • They saw Jesus' star in the East and knew it was pointing to the birth of a King
    • They were drawn by a star to worship Christ
      • Is there anything about Christmas that draws you in?
    • God had spoke to their hearts
  • They came initially to the wrong place
    • God choses the simple things for the Christ Child - not the place they may have expected
    • God is not always found in the places you might expect Him
    • It is not about religion - it is about the heart
    • You must truly bow the knee to Jesus
  • Drawn by natural revelation (the star) and then special revelation (God's word)
    • God uses these two means to bring people to Jesus (today)
    • Is God not speaking to your heart this evening?
    • The reality today is that people don't want to worship God
    • Are you like a wise man come to worship Christ or are you like Herod?
    • Jesus came that sinners might be reconciled to God
