God's promises are steadfast and sure in times of upheaval

• Definition of upheaval
  • God's promises remain steadfast
• Example of Joseph and captive Israel - in Psalm 105
  • Think what it must have been like for Joseph
    • Despite his reality - he still obeyed God
    • We know the outcome of the story - but He did not
  • Captive Israel (v23-24)
    • God made promises to Abraham - but also that Israel would go into captivity for 400 years

• We cannot get our bearings from our situations/the world around us
• We cannot necessarily get our bearings from those around us - example of Job
• At times, we can feel alone and as if God has abandoned us
  • It is at such times that we must turn to God's promises

• God remains loyal to His people - even when they are in sin
