- Not an easy passage to read - it speaks of the failure of a nation
- Scripture speaks of the depravity of our hearts
- We must come to the Lord in repentance
- Isaiah is speaking of a people who rebelled against God
- We must apply this to our hearts
- Where is God in your life?
- God deserves to be in the centre of your life
- Do we have reason to be satisfied with our lives? - is God really at the centre of lives?
- It it time to submit completely to God's Lordship
- v2 - a universal call to listen
- Because God the Lord has spoken
- Is it wise to avoid a siren or fire alarm?
- Is it wise to ignore God when He has spoken?
- The same God still speaks today - are you listening?
- He speaks through creation, conscience and the Bible
- The children have rebelled against Me
- The nation of Judah
- Directly aimed at Judah but an indirect warning to us
- God shows the depravity of the nation
- We are all need salvation
- An ignorant, ungrateful and sinful people that walked away from God
- Heb 10:31 - a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God
- v3 - speaks of ignorance
- The people ignorant of God
- The donkey and ox - stubborn and difficult animals
- God does not just desire to feed our physical needs but our spiritual soul
- Jesus Christ came to bring living water
- How many of us run to Jesus daily for more?
- Without God, how can we fulfill the commands of Scripture?

- v2 - speaks of ungratefulness
- The people were ungrateful to God also

- We dishonour God with our ungratefulness
- How grateful are we for the Lord Jesus?
- v4 - speaks of sin
- A sinful nation
- We are given to sin
- Examples
- Sin in rejecting God and forsaking God
- Bottom line is that we are sinners - this is what are hearts are naturally like
- v5-6 - speaks of recognising our sin
- Judah was persisting in their sin and rebellion - thinking that everything was okay
- There was no soundness in any part of their body
- There is a stench of sin and decay
- v7 - speaks of a punishment
- The nation was punished but couldn't see it
- Do we see the punishment of our sins?
- The nation had to be desolate to see it
- Have we become numb to sin?
- Has the Lord left you to your own devices?
- This is not a good thing
- Psalm 16:11
- v8 - speaks of desolation
- Those who continue in their sin are left along by Jesus
- The people were not turning back to God but we are not listening to Him call?
- v9 - speaks of our hope
- Praise the Lord there is hope - in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ
- Praise God for the remnant
- Do not continue in your sin any longer
- Jesus has come to wash us and clean us
- Communion reminds us of the cross - has the cross become personal to you?
- Personal example
- Jesus took our sins upon the cross and gave us His righteousness
- Repent and turn to Him now and the gospel will become personal to you
