Communion Service

Preacher:
Passage: Isaiah 53:1-12
Service Type:

A wonderful passage of the Lord Jesus Christ
His Silence

He did not open His mouth – v7
This prophecy was fulfilled in detail – Matt 27:12
This shows Jesus’ submission to His Father

His Simplicity and Straightforwardness

He also spoke absolute truth
v9 – no deceit in His mouth
Are we absolutely true?

His Sin-lessness

v11 – a righteous Servant
Psalm 1

His Shame

v12 – He was numbered with the transgressors
He was put on the level of a common criminal
He was put between two thieves
Personal example
v3 – He was despised and rejected by men / we did not esteem Him
The crowds cried out “crucify Him”

His Suffering

Isa 52:14 – His face was marred and disfigured
v5 – wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, He was given stripes
Does this draw out our love for Him?

His Substitution

v6 – God has laid our iniquity on Jesus
v5 – Wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace
He came for His elect and bore their sin upon the cross
v12 – He bore the sin of many

His Submission

Like a Lamb to the slaughter
He meekly submitted
Smitten by God – v4, 10

His Satisfaction

v10 – “He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”
v11 – “He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.”
v12 – “Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the [s]spoil with the strong”

Let us focus upon the Lord Jesus Christ as we approach the communion table
