Amazing Love

Introduction

  • War devastates and leaves people bitter
    • 17 million people died in WW1
    • 60 million peopled died in WW2
  • We also ought to love one another
    • If God has so loved us, we should love others unconditionally

God so Loved Us (John 3:16)

Which world did God love?

  • God looks beyond the physical world
    • He sees that men and women are perishing
  • Men and women are born into sin
    • The wages of our sin is death
    • We choose to sin
  • Christ often said "Repent or perish"
  • God loved a sinful world that was perishing because of sin

How did God love the World?

  • He gave of Himself
    • We cannot redeem ourselves
      • All our righteousness is as filthy rags before God
      • All of us has gone astray
    • We needed a rescuer - One who had lived a perfect life
      • He can bear the wrath of God
      • He can take our punishment in our place
  • God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son
    • Think how it is for God to love a world that daily grieves Him
      • "He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him." - John 1:11
      • All " his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us." - Luke 19:14
      • "Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the they saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance." - Matt 21:37-38
    • God's love is unconditional
      • John 4 - The story of the Samaritan woman - they believed He was the Saviour of the world
      • Simply believe in Christ
  • Who benefits from God's love?
    • Matt 7:13-14 - many are on the broad path to destruction
    • The Samaritan woman and Nicodemus found the narrow path to life
    • What about you?
  • What a wonderful invitation we have to give to others?
    • What about you this morning?
    • What is holding you back from trusting in Christ?
  • Believe in Jesus Christ

We also ought to love one another (1 John 4:11)

  • A key evidence that a person is born again is that they love God's people
    • 1 John 4:7-11
  • Jesus said: "A new Commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you"
    • How has Christ loved us?

    • Love does not take offense

  • We must pray that our love will grow
    • "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up"
